There are hundreds of hotels in Cusco and it can be confusing to find one that is just right for your budget and tastes! El Balcon Cusco is run by Joaquin and Wendy who also run one of our favourite hotels in Ollantaytambo El Albergue and has become one of our top budget places to stay in Cusco.
Located on Tambo de Montero street, just a 10 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas or main square this is a great choice if you’re looking for a quiet place to stay that is close to the action and won’t break the bank. This is a small hotel with just 16 rooms set around a lush garden. As its name would suggest the hotel has a balcony which dates back to the colonial period and offers stunning views of Cusco and the surrounding mountains.
Rooms are rustic and decorated with local weavings and basket work and are really comfortable. We were surprised by the quality of the mattresses and bed linen that guaranteed us a great night’s sleep.

Bathrooms are spotless and the shower was good overall except for temperamental moments of pressure loss. We liked the little extras like robes and two big bottles of filtered water in all rooms. Breakfast is a good quality buffet for this price bracket with fruit, cereal, juice, tea and coffee and eggs cooked to your liking.
A great choice if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay in the budget category.
Best of Peru Travel Recommends:
- Book a room on the second floor for quiet rooms with great views of the surrounding mountains.
- El Balcon is on a quiet street that is currently under construction so it can be very quiet at night. Make sure to get a taxi back to your hotel if you are out after dark.
